Environmental and economic impacts of agrivoltaics in Bangladesh

Project Active from to Energy, Sustainable Growth and Inclusive Growth

Fossil fuel sources are often presented as requiring less land and producing more jobs per unit of power generated, relative to solar in Bangladesh. However, agrivoltaics, or growing crops under solar panels, present a new opportunity to capitalise on land scarcity and concerns around low per capita energy use. This research estimates the direct and upstream impact of agrivoltaics in Bangladesh on employment, land, water, greenhouse gas emissions, and co-pollutants.
